Equipment Transmutation Overview

Equipment Transmutation is the process of taking Phantom equipment (equipment in the drawing but not in the database) and creating a database link. The Transmutation process is not applicable if you draw equipment in “Real” mode.

Transmutating Equipment and Assigning Sysnames

The Sysname (System Name) is a unique identifier for every equipment item you place in the project database. VidCAD assigns a Sysname based on the product abbreviation of the equipment selected and the number of occurrences it has in the project. For example, if you select a Sony 2800 VCR, VidCAD suggests the product abbreviation of VCR. If it is the first occurrence, the number 01 is appended to the abbreviation to comprise a Sysname (E.g., VCR01). Through the Select System Name window, you can accept the automatic assignment or key in your own product abbreviation.

Note: The Select System Name window only displays if you have the “Ask for System name” setting checked in the Equipment Settings window. If this option is checked, the next available system name is retrieved from the database for use in the phantom drawing. You can use this system name or define your own.
